Dividends
I recently found out about the term Memory Dividends. It’s basically the "dividends" you receive from re-experiencing a prior experience in the future.
“Buying an experience doesn't just buy you the experience itself — it also buys you the sum of all the dividends that experience will bring for the rest of your life” - Bill Perkins in his book Die With Zero
There is another type of dividend that I think is important too. The Anticipation Dividend. It’s the dividends from the anticipation of future experiences. It’s the opposite but it’s as exciting. It gives us hope and something to look forward to and makes the grind worth it.
I’ve benefitted from prioritizing experiences (and memories) but I realize I’ve also benefited from the Anticipation Dividend of looking forward to these experiences in the future.
