As AI agents become the primary way things on the internet get found, used and purchased, every company needs to build infrastructure to attract them.

Agents traverse the internet programmatically. They don’t care about beautiful interfaces or clever UX. They operate most naturally through the CLI, a command line interface or a text based tool you run in your computer terminal. If your product doesn’t have one, you’ll be invisible to the agent. Think of a CLI as a phone number for agents. CLI was originally built for convenience by engineers building developer tools.

Mercury, an online bank, and Notion, a note taking app, have CLIs and they’re not developer focused products.

CLIs now are a growth and distribution channel for any company that wants their next customer who won’t find them through ads or a Google search but through agents.
